Jay and his family have been attending RVC since 2010 and he has served as an elder since 2013. Jay and his wife Katie married in 2002 and have three children (Trey, Phoebe, and Junia). He works as a physician. He loves his family and enjoys reading, running, and NBA basketball (Go Bulls!).

He became a Christian during an existential crisis in 1999 after a dear friend had him read Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. In addition to Mere Christianity and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, also by C. S. Lewis, some of his other favorite books are God’s Passion for his Glory by John Piper (influenced by Jonathan Edwards), The Life and Diary of David Brainerd by David Brainerd and Jonathan Edwards, and Sermons on Ephesians by John Calvin. He is a Christian Hedonist.
